Authors note: My parents suggested that I write about what I am thankful for, in honor of Thanksgiving. I will work on my introduction in this piece.
Now let’s see, what am I thankful for... Good food, a nice house, a loving family. Right. That’s what the teachers and parents want to hear. And, unfortunately, that is what I have been writing for the past six years. Not to say I’m not thankful for those things, but there are some things I’m thankful for that are far more real.
The first thing I am thankful for are the Tae Kwon Do lessons my mom and dad have paid for. They are changing almost everything about me, from my attitude to my ability to concentrate. I honestly don’t know where I’d be without all the wonderful people there. And yes that does sound cheesy but I mean it.
The second thing I’m thankful for is school. Specifically the school’s technology program. With my laptop I can do things kids without laptops could never do. Such as writing this piece, or do so much ALEKS work. I have been handed huge opportunities by the school district and that is definitely something to be thankful for.
The last thing I should probably mention are my friends. Sure family is nice, until your so irritated with each other that I want to punch something. But my friends I can always count on. And this is going to be embarrassing but I don’t know what I would do without my friends.
So yes, I can be thankful for food, and a house, and a family but that just isn’t real. These things are. They are important to me, real. And I urge you, this Thanksgiving, to think about the real things that you are thankful for.
