Who Will She Be?

Authors Note. This piece was written to combine the skills of prediction and character analysis.

To explain the main character in the novel Seraphina, who is Seraphina herself, you must understand a bit about dragons.  Well the dragons she knows; ones who are beasts in human form that have killed many of her own kind.  But Seraphina is only part human.  Seraphina is a novel about a half dragon girl.  And although I cannot say for sure I can predict a couple reasons that Seraphina should become a rather dynamic character.

One thing that could cause changes in her is the variety of people she must interact with.  At work she is a royal musician’s assistant.  As such she must speak both with the royalty themselves and the others that work for them.  On the other hand she also must know how to act with the common people, ones whose lives are very different from those at the castle's.  Finally she must know how to speak with dragons; her tutor is a full dragon.  To make this work she must constantly shift what she considers safe to say and do. However I predict that eventually everything will become rather overwhelming and Seraphina will slip up, perhaps showing what she truly is.  When this happens I would suspect that she will become something alien and frightening to the people she interacts with everyday. This prediction is supported by the novel Ironking. In this novel when Meghan’s best friend Robbie reveals that he is fey, her interpretation of him changes completely, even though he had no control over it.

Another reason she might change is her determination to hide her heritage from the world.  To do this she has already developed a few techniques.  However there are still chinks in her armour that will need to be protected.  Any new developments in this area would change Seraphina’s image of herself, seeing as it could help her understand the parts of her that are dragon better.  This situation would be like Jack’s in the novel Warrior Heir.  In this novel Jack has to come to terms with the fact that he is different from everyone else and in his case this leads to higher self confidence. However this seems like an outcome that simply isn't possible for Seraphina, as she will likely come to despise her ancestry even more.

A half beast with a human mind.  This girl, Seraphina, will have a hard road ahead of her.  But she will survive as this is the want of characters that are as dynamic as her!
