Memoir

Once upon a time the most shy girl in second grade spoke up to see of she could make a friend.  At that time the most popular girl in school somehow knew she would need this mouse of a girl later.  And that is how an unlikely friendship was born.

Wack!  The shy girl and the cool girl run into each other in front of their bright red side-by-side cubbies.  In years to come they will hopefully tell people that they met by running into each other.  Perhaps it was the shy girls fault, by looking down and not watching.  Or the popular girl's for being too busy talking to another friend.

"Hey your names Sophia right?"  the shy girl speaks up praying not to by scorned.

"Yeah, how did you know?" the popular girl seems surprised.

"Oh everyone knows your name."  the shy girl doesn't lie, she has heard it all over.

"So you wanna play with me at recess?"  the shy girl figures that at this point nothing is stopping her.

"Sure" the popular girl smiles and they walk away together.

The next day Sophia and I were best friends.  Neither of us really understand why.  I was a shy girl with few friends.  And looking up to Sophia all year had given me a mental crick in the neck.  All just because she was a popular girl who seemed to be friends with everyone.   So thank you Popular Sophia, for staying my friend all these years.
